Hi, I'm Justine, and welcome to my web site! I am an illustrator living in Wisconsin. I received my BFA in Illustration from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.
My choice of media includes any kind of paint that can be watered down, such as watercolor, acrylic, and ink. Although I tend to dilute the paint heavily, I try to keep the pigment really bright and intense. Painting transparent layers of color to add dimension to a painting is my favorite part of the process.
The kinds of shapes that inspire me are curving and organic. Influences for my paintings come from Edward Gorey illustrations, the illustrative work of Tim Burton, and the psychedelic music posters of the 1960's. I appreciate the line work and dark sense of humor in both Gorey's and Burton's work. I admire the psychedelic poster designs for their intensity of color, elaborate shapes, and Victorian imagery.
